Lucius Equitius – 32
Goal
• He desires wealth over anything else. He was impoverished when young, and one can tell just by looking at him that he still has a look of the streets about him. For this reason he squanders his wealth on jewelry and other vain things.
• He is clearly using his relationship with Glaucia and Saturninus to enrich himself, and they are compensating him well to use his name for their party’s benefit.
Physical Description
• Shorter than most and thin.
• For a young man he has a hunched back and bone thin limbs.
• He has a wisp of facial hair on his cheeks, but can’t seem to grow any on his chin or above his lip. It doesn’t appear as if he’s shaved in months.
• He has alert and darting eyes that seem to appraise everything hungrily.
• a deep dimple in his chin, a widows peak and the makings of a unibrow.
• He has hair that almost shines with grease, which Sertorius assumes is because of how rarely he bathes, and the smell reflects that.
Personality
• Always seems to bounce on his feet and fidget anxiously. When attempting to engage him in conversation, he nods along but never makes eye contact, and then quickly changes the subject to whatever has him preoccupied at the moment.
• He has a habit of directing any conversation to his wealth or his possessions, which anyone with a little discernment can tell is vastly exaggerated.
• He basks in the love of the people, and showers them with handfuls of sestercie. In reality, he is tossing out very little coin, but it makes him feel powerful and the mob loves him for it.
• He is a bad speaker. They learn this quickly and therefore limit the amount of time he speaks before the Senate or the people. His latin is vulgar and he doesn’t know Greek, and his speeches are often rambling and disconnected.
Occupation
• Worked as a bricklayer for the city of Rome public buildings and aqueducts until he is “discovered” as the son of Gracchus, and becomes a celebrity of sorts.
Habits/Mannerisms
• When he drinks he proves just how odd he really is, by shouting and saying things that aren’t socially appropriate.
• He doesn’t believe in the gods at all. Calls the priests thieves and claims to haven’t made a sacrifice since he was a child and his mother made him, and they clearly don’t exist or otherwise he wouldn’t have been gifted with such wealth.
• His toga is worn sloppily and there are often stains of wine or olive oil on them. It’s clear he isn’t used to wearing a toga, as the intricacies of the folds seem to have escaped him.
• He has a pool of moray eels outside his home, that likely cost about as much as the shabby residence. He can drown on for hours about the expenditure.
Background
• Born a slave in the house of Tiberius Gracchus. He is only a year old when the Tribune was assassinated. His mother dies when he is still a toddler, and he remains in the ownership of the Gracchi until Gaius dies, and he is freed in the tribune’s will.
External Conflicts
• Wants to claim his place as the heir of Tiberius Gracchus, but the nobility don’t believe him at all and there is also a large portion of the people that don’t believe him either.
