Gaius Julius Caesar (father of dictator)
40 years old • Senator
Goal
- To main his wealth and status, and enjoy the fruits of it. He has no grand ambitions, or otherwise he might already be making a bid for Consul, or at least Praetor.
Physical Description
- He is well put together and maintains a very stylish appearance. His hair is always oiled back and placed perfectly.
- He wears more jewelry than is typically befitting of a man, but regardless he is the object of many women’s desires.
- His smile is friendly but mischievous, and his eyes, one green the other brown, are always analyzing and thinking.
Personality
- He is a mild mannered man who prefers to be friends with everyone. He is loyal to his brother-in-law Marius, as well as his father-in-law Cotta. He asks them both to not force him to take sides between the two, and they respect that for the most part. Marius questions him and says “you used to be by my side every time I was dreaming of the future,” and he replies “yes but it was different then. That was before I was married. Before I was a father.”
- He is very sly and witty.
- He is very good at knowing his audience. He fits in both with the Patrician nobles and also with Marius’ retinue. He is also very good at playing the fence, appeasing both sides without being completely treacherous to one side or the other.
- He is known as a ladies’ man and spends a great deal swooshing with the girls wherever he goes, even pretty slave girls. He takes great pleasure in female beauty, and speaks of it constantly. He becomes encapsulated with Aurelia’s beauty in such a way that it becomes more than a political marriage to him, although one has a hard time believing he would ever stay faithful given his wide range of tastes and desires.
- He is pessimistic to a degree, not as others might be, but he is pragmatic and doesn’t believe in the gods or divine existence.
- He is a thinker rather than a feeler, and believes in only what he can see and touch.
- He is interested in learning about great generals of the past, specifically Alexander the Great and Hannibal, although he shows no particular interest in warfare himself.
Occupation
He is a senator at this point, and nothing more
Habits/Mannerisms
- Fascinated with boats and naval warfare. Likes to inform others about the latest happenings with navel engineering.
- He considers himself to be a collector of fine wines and foreign jewelry. He often analyzes the taste of wine and comments on its qualities.
- He often arrives at a guests house with a gift, be it a porcelain vase from Greece or a necklace made of seashells from Spain. Its a clever way to win friends and bind others to his will.
Background
- He served with Marius for a time in Africa
- He was a commissioner of one of Marius’ colonies, Cercina in 103 bc.
Internal Conflicts
He loves his brother in law, but does not wish to engage in his politics any longer. He also loves his father-in-law Cotta, or at least the status of having a man like that in his family, and he is unwilling to sacrifice his support.
